The Department of Agriculture โ Agricultural Training Institute โ Regional Training Center 1 (DA-ATI-RTC 1) conducted the Training on Animal Waste Management and Utilization Batch 2 from June 23 to 25, 2025 at the DA-ATI-RTC in Tebag East, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan.
The three-day training equipped 31 farmers from Region 1 with vital knowledge and practical skills in addressing the growing need for efficient and environmentally sound management of animal waste in agricultural communities.
Additionally, the participants gained insights into various techniques for processing animal manure, producing renewable energy through biogas system, and mitigating the release of greenhouse gases. The ultimate goal was to foster a more circular economy within the agricultural sector, where waste is minimized and resources are maximized, leading to improved farm profitability and a healthier ecosystem.
An exposure study visit to Greentop Organix Farm, one of the Center's accredited Learning Sites for Agriculture (LSA) was one of the highlights of the training. This provided participants with firsthand experience to a successful farm practicing integrated farming systems that prioritize sustainable waste management.
More than just observation, the visit included engaging hands-on activities, empowering farmers to directly apply their newly acquired knowledge. Participants were engaged in the production of Lactic Acid Bacteria Serum (LABS), a natural and beneficial microbial solution used in composting and explored into the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) production.
With new skills and renewed sense of purpose, the participants are now ready to contribute to Regionโs 1 resiliency and sustainable agricultural system.
The Center continues to champion such initiatives, recognizing that investing in the knowledge and capabilities of farmers is an investment in the prosperity and well-being of the entire region.
