In pursuit of building stronger, more sustainable farming communities, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center I (ATI-RTC I), conducted a Training on Basic Community Organizing and Zero Rice-Waste Management for Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) on June 23-27, 2025 at ATI-RTC I, Tebag East, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan.
A total of 30 AEWs from various municipalities across the region participated in the five-day training, which aimed to enhance their capacities in community development and sustainable agricultural practices. The training equipped participants with essential tools to mobilize rural communities, promote zero rice-waste principles, and support inclusive and resilient agricultural growth.
Dr. Marlowe U. Aquino from Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), Ms. Khristina Leodeth P. Gagote of the Local Government Unit of Sto. Tomas, Pangasinan, and Ms. Jeimelie C. Constantino and Ms. Almera M. Montano from ATI-RTC I, shared their expertise on practical and locally grounded approaches to engaging communities, identifying development priorities, and strengthening partnerships among farmers, cooperatives, and other rural stakeholders.
To reinforce learning, participants engaged in various interactive workshops, hands-on demonstrations, and a field exposure activity, where they interviewed Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) beneficiaries in San Fabian, Pangasinan, and observed best practices in action.
The training concluded with the preparation of re-entry plans, ensuring that the knowledge and strategies acquired can be effectively implemented in their respective municipalities.
During the closing program, ATI-RTC 1 Center Director, Dr. Jayvee Bryan G. Carillo, challenged the participants to organize or revitalize their community or association in their respective municipalities as part of their re-entry plans. He also encouraged them in their journey as a new breed of AEWs.
ATI-RTC I continues to support the creation of more resilient, proactive, and environmentally responsible farming communities—laying the groundwork for a greener and more sustainable future for Philippine agriculture.
