The Department of AgricultureโAgricultural Training InstituteโRegional Training Center I (DA-ATI RTC I), in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Candon City, Ilocos Sur, officially inaugurated a 30-head Swine Multiplier Farm (SMF) under the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) program on July 8, 2025.
The SMF is designed to house 30 high-quality breeder sows that will serve as a source of piglets for smallholder farmers in the area. Equipped with state-of-the-art housing, strict biosecurity measures, and supported by technical training from ATI, the facility aims to strengthen the communityโs capacity in sustainable swine production.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
ย โThis Swine Multiplier Farm is not just a facility โ it is a symbol of recovery, hope, and resilience for our hog raisers,โ said Dr. Maricel Dacapias. โWe are bringing back opportunities for farmers and ensuring food security in the region.โ
The project is part of the Department of Agricultureโs long-term strategy to rehabilitate and expand the Philippine swine industry following the devastation caused by African Swine Fever (ASF). Through collaboration with local government units, ATI, and DA-RFO I, the project empowers communities with the tools and knowledge needed to rebuild a more sustainable and biosecure hog industry.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by local and regional government officials and representatives. Hon. Eric Dario Singson, City Mayor of Candon, graced the event, while Hon. Jeremias โJerryโ C. Singson, Governor of Ilocos Sur, was represented by Dr. Celso Gaway. DA-Regional Field Office I Director John B. Pascual was represented by Mr. Joseph Ralla. Also in attendance were members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod and staff from the office of Ilocos Sur 2nd District Representative, Hon. Kristine G. Singson-Meehan.
