The Department of Agriculture โ Agricultural Training Institute โ Regional Training Center I (DA-ATI RTC I) conducted a groundbreaking ceremony and cheque awarding for a joint project under the Swine Industry Recovery Project (SIRP) on July 2, 2025, at Pangasinan State University โ Sta. Maria Campus. The event marked the official launch of SIRP Component 2: Innovative Finisher Operation for Small-Hold Farmers.
The 1.5 million project, implemented in partnership with ATI-ITCPH and PUM Netherlands, aims to support small-scale hog raisers through the establishment of modern infrastructure and the promotion of sustainable farming practices. The funding will cover the construction of a 40-head capacity concrete finisher pigpen, along with facilities for feed storage, sanitation, and provision of piglets, feeds, veterinary supplies, and livestock insurance.
Additionally, the pig pen is designed to uphold animal welfare, biosecurity, and efficient waste management, the facility also aligns with the Waste-To-Asset initiative, which converts pig manure into organic fertilizerโpromoting eco-friendly and water-efficient swine production systems.
This milestone event underscores PSU Sta. Mariaโs critical role in helping revive and advance the swine industry in the region.
