Lala, LANAO DEL NORTE—Thirty-two Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and farmer leaders attended the one-day Technical Briefing on Balance Fertilization Strategy conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center X (ATI-RTC X) at Jika Farm, Lala, Lanao del Norte on February 13, 2023.

ATI-RTC X' Rice Program Coordinator and Assistant RCEF Coordinator Jhoylie Mae R. Caumban and Bryan Jay V. Cabugwason, together with Sharon Elvi Marie Cachopera of the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM), facilitated the said briefing.

One of the burning issues that the agriculture sector is continually facing is the rising prices of fertilizers. The Department of Agriculture (DA) initiated this activity to promote the Balance Fertilization Strategy (BFS) in addressing this challenge. BFS involves the optimum use of organic and inorganic fertilizers with the proper grade and amounts to supply the correct ratio of plant nutrients to ensure that the soil will sustain high crop yields.

Being the front liners in terms of delivering services to the farmers, our AEWs and farmer leaders must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to assist and inform our farmers to use alternative ways in producing their crops. The said activity covered and discussed the Overview of Palaycheck System highlighting Keycheck Number 5: Sufficient Nutrient from Tillering to Early Panicle Initiation and Flowering, Balance Fertilization Strategy, Fertilizer Materials and Calculation, AgRiTools in Rice Production with emphasis on Nutrient Diagnostic Tools, and crafting of an action plan by the participants.

This Technical Briefing is the 1st activity conducted by the ATI Rice Program for FY 2023.
