ATI-RTC X capacitates trainers to produce more Digital Farmers in Region X

Oroquieta City, MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL- “We will surely use this training to help our farmers, many of them really need our help,” said the teary eye Julie An Alvarez a young farmer, and a  participant of the 1ST Batch of the Regional Training of Trainers on Digital Farmers Program (DFP).

The training aims to produce a pool of trainers on the Digital Farmers Program who will help capacitate farmers to be future-ready, farm-smart, and able to adapt to the modernization and digitalization of the current era.

There were 20 participants, composed of young and adult farmers from the different Learning Sites for Agriculture, FITS Center, and Kiosk staff of Misamis Occidental who completed the three-day training.

The module of the trainers’ training was composed of Digital Farmers 101, which includes: Smartphone 101, Accessing the Internet and Internet Safety, Basic Agri Apps, and Basic Social Media Marketing. Also in the module is DFP 102 which includes, Advance Agri Apps, Advance Social Media Marketing, e-Commerce, and Online payments. The topics were delivered with a   series of step-by-step activities and workshops.

“  ATI’s DFP module is very brief yet all important lessons are covered. This kind of training can really help the farmers, especially since we are encouraging them to go into digital farming,” shared Floriezel Paslaaw, a participant in the training from FITS Kiosk TESDA-LNNAIS.

The activity was highlighted with a demo back session which they performed by pair. The participants selected the key topics they delivered via draw lots, which all were taken from the DFP module. Top performing participants were recognized and were given prizes, the following are:

  • Dave Arabes and Genie Jabien-  Best in Microteaching
  • Floriezel Paslaaw and Giecelle Lou Gamboa- 2nd Best in Microteaching

Mr. Arabes and Mr. Jabien, being the first placers received one Samsung Tablet each, while, Ms. Paslaaw and Ms. Gamboa, received 1 terabyte Hard Drive each being second placers.

Participants were able to create their own Social Media Poster, FB page, a Social Media Marketing Plan which will guide them in promoting their services and marketing their farm produce and by-products to be more visible to their clients; and a Dream Board which reflected their goals as they engage on e-commerce.  

Participants with the best outputs were also awarded accordingly:

  • Julie An Alvarez – Best in SocMed Poster and Post
  • Ms. Vima Bolanio and Melvi John Bolanio – Dreamer of the Batch (Best in Dreamboard)

Mr. Welmer Bangud,  a participant representing  LSA ALoran Trade High School expressed how thankful he was to be given such an opportunity to learn, he said “I learned that there are lots of useful agri apps that we can teach the children, and to attract them into agriculture. Hopefully, we could conduct this at school, and in our community. We will surely make sure that we will make change happen.”

The next batch of the Training of Trainers on DFP will be on September 19-21, 2022 at Casisang, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

The training was held on September 6-8, 2022 at Habitacion, Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental.
