MALAYBALAY CITY, BUKIDNON — To bolster rural livelihoods and champion women’s empowerment, the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center X (ATI-RTC X) conducted a three-day intensive training on corn processing and utilization from April 22 to 24, 2026. The hands-on workshop, held at the Umanika Eco-Cultural Farm, was implemented in partnership with Greenminds, Inc., an accredited Extension Service Provider of ATI.
It aims to strengthen the capacity of women farmers and provide them with additional income opportunities through value-adding technologies in corn production. It also supports the broader goal of promoting sustainable and market-oriented agricultural processing systems that respond to consumer demand for safe, high-quality, and diversified food products.
A total of twenty-five participants, representing the Rural Improvement Club (RIC) and various Bukidnon Corn Cooperative members, completed the training program.
The curriculum was designed to bridge the gap between farm production and entrepreneurial success. Key modules included in-depth sessions on Food Safety Standards, specifically Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices.
Participants also delved into the core principles of food science, modern corn industry utilization, and business essentials such as product development, strategic labeling, professional packaging, and precision pricing. To ensure mastery, the program provided direct hands-on exposure to corn processing and hygienic food preparation under the guidance of industry experts. These resource persons included Ms. Phoebe L. Galeon, Food Technology Instructor from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, and Ms. Rose Mary B. Lomarda, Product Development Officer of GreenMinds, Inc.
For many of the attendees, the training served as a catalyst for economic independence. Ms. Marife Flores, one of the graduates, expressed
“Ang training nakatabang gyud sa amo isip miyembro sa RIC aron mas masabtan ang value-adding sa mais. Nakita namo nga dako diay og potensyal ang mais kung maproseso ug tarong. Dili lang kay nadugangan ang among kahibalo, kundili nadasig usab mi nga magsugod og gamay nga negosyo gikan sa mais aron makatabang sa among panginabuhian ug sa among pamilya”, Ms. Marife Flores said.
