MALAYBALAY CITY, BUKIDNON — In response to the low level of onion production in Northern Mindanao, the Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center X (ATI-RTC X) conducted a Training of Trainers on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for Onion Production and Management at the Northern Mindanao Agricultural Crops and Livestock Research Complex (NMACLRC) in Dalwangan, Malaybalay City Bukidnon on May 11-15, 2026.
Thirty-three (33) Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) from across the region participated in the training. The participants were introduced to the Onion Industry Situationer in Northern Mindanao, Integrated Crop Management (ICM), Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPM), Good Agricultural Practices for onion market-oriented production, and the Agro-Enterprise Clustering Approach (AECA).
In her message delivered online, ATI-RTC X Center Director Maria Lydia A. Echavez, congratulated and recognized the AEWs vital role in agricultural development.
“You are the frontliners of development and agents of change who bridge the gap between technology, innovation, and the field, ensuring that our farmers have access to the latest technologies and essential support services they need for a better and more productive livelihood,” Echavez said.
She also challenged the participants to become leaders in promoting sustainable onion production and agricultural modernization in the region.
Participant from (add LGU)Mr. James Mar Binayao shared that the training enhanced his knowledge and skills in onion production, particularly in integrated crop management, pest management, GAP, and the Agro-Enterprise Clustering Approach.
“I learned how clustering farmers can improve coordination, access to markets, and collective decision-making, which can help increase productivity and profitability. These learnings will help me provide better technical assistance and guide farmers toward more sustainable and market-oriented onion production,” Binayao said.
