INITAO, MISAMIS ORIENTAL - The Agricultural Training Institute–Regional Training Center X (ATI-RTC X), through its Career Development and Management Section (CDMS), successfully conducted the fourth batch of the Training on Coconut Nursery Management under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) at Buhian Diversified Farm, Apas, Initao on May 13–15, 2026.
The three-day capability-building activity brought together 30 coconut farmers from Iligan City and Initao, Misamis Oriental. The training aimed to enhance the participants’ technical knowledge and practical skills in coconut nursery management, focusing on increasing the success rate of seed germination and improving the overall quality of local planting materials.
A key highlight of the training was the hands-on demonstration on coconut nursery establishment. This was supplemented by an immersive farm visit that allowed the participants to apply their theoretical learning under real-world farm conditions.
Mr. Joel Francisco III A. Mendoza, one of the farmer-participants, expressed his appreciation for the initiative and highlighted the practical takeaways he gained.
"I have learned about coconut varieties, proper planting methods, and how to distinguish male and female coconuts, including the concept of emasculation and proper planting orientation," Mendoza shared.
Serving as the technical pool, Training Specialist II, Noriel Kris A. Santillan, along with Joebert D. Apdian, Technical Support Staff, shared valuable insights during the sessions. They emphasized the critical importance of proper management practices, from initial nursery operations up to harvesting, to ensure long-term sustainability and productivity in coconut farming.
