El Salvador City- The Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center X (ATI-RTC X), in partnership with the National Meat Inspection Service – Regional Technical Operations Center X (NMIS-RTOC X), conducted the second batch of the Retooling Training Workshop for Meat Inspection Officers in Region X.
A total of twenty (20) meat inspectors from various municipalities across Region X participated in the workshop, aimed to review and strengthen their technical knowledge and competencies in meat inspection, in line with the latest standards and guidelines of the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS).
During the opening program, ATI-RTC X Center Director Maria Lydia A. Echavez emphasized the importance of the training in enhancing their competencies and reinforcing their role in ensuring food safety.
Likewise, in her message, NMIS-RTOC X Regional Technical Director Dr. Neonette K. Agreda encouraged participants to continue learning and not to hesitate in reaching out to NMIS for guidance on updated meat inspection standards. She also urged them to be proactive in coordinating and to NMIS whenever concerns arise, highlighting the importance of strong communication and collaboration with the agency.
The resource persons included the former NMIS Deputy Director and now City Veterinary Consultant of El Salvador City, Atty. Beata Humilda O. Obsioma, Senior Meat Control Officer of NMIS-RTOC X, Dr. Jess Anthony R. Recososa, Dr. Neil Oliver A. Barradas, Dr. Geravil R. Mendoza, Meat Inspector III, Ms. Genevie T. Badilla, and Senior Meat Control Officer from NMIS-RTOC IX (Davao Region), Dr. Arvin Louis T. Casilac.
“This training was so impactful, I have realized that my job is not just inspection, but protecting the lives of every family buying meat," shared Eva M Rabuya, Meat Inspector of the Local Government Unit of El Salvador City.
During the closing program, OIC Assistant Center Director Efren C. Macario emphasized the vital role of meat inspectors in ensuring food safety. He highlighted their responsibility in safeguarding public health and maintaining standards within the meat industry.
Meanwhile, Senior Meat Control Officer Dr. Jess Anthony R. Recososa underscored the importance of continuous learning. He encouraged participants to stay engaged in professional development, use social media platforms to stay-up-to date, strengthen their networks, and actively share best practices within their respective LGUs.
Meat inspection plays a vital role in preventing foodborne illnesses and maintaining the highest standards of safety for the consuming public. This commitment to continuous learning underscores the Department of Agriculture’s dedication to ensuring that every meat product reaching the Filipino table is wholesome, safe, and of the highest quality.
