INITAO, Misamis Oriental— To continue strengthen the standard of copra industry in the region, the Agricultural Training Institute–Regional Training Center X (ATI-RTC X) conducted the Training on Good Quality Copra Production and Processing in Buhian Diversified Farm, Initao, Misamis Oriental, from April 28 to 30, 2026.
The program aimed to equip coconut farmers and Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) with essential knowledge on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and food safety standards to elevate the quality of local copra production significantly.
There were 30 farmer- participants who completed the training from Taparak Multi-purpose Cooperative in Alubijid, Misamisn Oriental.
Under the leadership of Training Specialist II Noriel Kris Santillan and Project Officer Joebert D. Apdian, the participants engaged in technical discussions and hands-on farm demonstrations which focused on efficient harvesting and processing techniques designed to minimize waste, such as the byproduct loss of coconut water and husks.
A major highlight of the activity was the introduction to white copra production, providing farmers with a competitive advantage in the market. The formulation of re-entry plans ensured that these modern strategies would be effectively implemented in their respective local communities.
This initiative directly supports the mandate of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to empower the agricultural sector, ensuring that through enhanced technical capacity and standardized processing, Filipino coconut farmers can secure a more productive and sustainable future for the country's coconut industry.
