30 New Seed Growers Certified via RCEF-RESP Training

ATI-RTC XI envisions to transform farmers into certified seed growers. Teaming up with the Bureau of Plant Industry and PhilRice-Agusan, 30 farmers were successfully certified in inbred rice production at Villar SIPAG Farm School on April 22 to 26, 2024 though Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund-Rice Extension Services Program.

On the first day, RCEF Focal Person Ruby Jane Bentiroso and Engr. April Batara of Villar SIPAG Farm School welcomed the energetic participants. Meanwhile, Ms. Bentiroso passionately delivered the values formation with rice's harvest and post-harvest management modules with engaging group activities. 

On the second day, Ms. Mercini Araño of BPI-NSQCS laid down the mechanics and guidelines of seed certification while demonstrating some laboratory procedure on seed testing, sampling, and bagging. Then, Mr. Raphael G. Nemenzo discussed the Policies and Guidelines on Seed Certification. 

Furthermore, Philip Ostique of PhilRice Agusan explained PalayCheck 1-7 emphasizing on the integrated crop management on rice production to ensure high-quality seeds in rice production. The training was completed with experiential learning at Brgy. Salvacion Carmen Davao del Norte where they removed field off-types and went to DAMSEPCO, Tagum City to observe the cooperative's warehouse facility.

On graduation day, Sen. Cynthia Villar ensured her continuous support to RCEF programs through a video message that motivated the farmers. Then, ATI RTC-XI Center Director Alicia Rose Nebreja awarded the certificate of completion and closed the program by emphasizing the significance of the 30 Seed Growers in producing high-quality seeds and sharing their learning to increase their income, lessen farm expenses, inspire more seed growers in Davao region.
