Patikul, Sulu — The Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center XII (ATI-RTC XII) successfully conducted the Farmer-Level Training on Good Quality Copra Production and Processing (Batch 2) at the OPAg Training Hall, Sulu, on September 15–17, 2025. The activity opened with an inspiring message from Ms. Virginia P. Arreza, Provincial Agriculturist of OPAg-Sulu, who emphasized the importance of continuous learning and collaboration among farmers to improve copra quality and increase income. Engr. Mokles P. Buisan, Training Specialist II of ATI-RTC XII, followed with an overview of the training’s objectives and modules, highlighting the practical skills and technical knowledge that participants were expected to gain.
Experts from partner agencies shared their expertise throughout the three-day training. Mr. Alfahar S. Saiddi, CDO of PCA-Sulu, presented a Coconut Industry Situationer discussing production trends, export opportunities, and local challenges in Sulu’s coconut sector. Mr. Mudjamier S. Hailid, MMO of MAFAR-Sulu, led discussions on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in Coconut Production, while Mr. Farhan M. Hassan, MAFAR Municipal Officer of Indanan, enriched participants’ understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), underscoring their role in ensuring product safety and quality.
One of the highlights was the session by Mr. Baltazar Jauhari, MMO of MAFAR-Sulu, who tackled the crucial topic of Food and Feed Contaminants (MOSH-MOAH), explaining their risks and ways to prevent contamination to meet strict market standards. Meanwhile, Ms. Elena B. Alfad shared valuable insights on GMP in Copra Processing, guiding farmers on hygiene, sanitation, and proper handling techniques. The training concluded with the awarding of certificates of completion to participants, symbolizing their commitment to applying their newfound knowledge toward improving the coconut industry in Sulu.
