The third batch of the Training on Inbred and Hybrid Rice Production Technologies for Rice Clusters in Region XII officially opened on April 21, 2026. This technical program gathers farmers and cooperative leaders from various rice clusters across the region, aiming to accelerate the adoption of high-yielding and climate-resilient cultivation methodologies. The initiative addresses modern challenges such as shifting climate patterns, persistent pest pressures, and the growing national demand for food security.

OIC Center Director Dr. Jessie V. Beldia opened the training by underscoring that integrating updated inbred and hybrid technologies is essential for modernizing the regional rice sector. He noted that moving away from traditional, unstandardized practices allows clusters to achieve better economies of scale and higher quality outputs. The introductory technical sessions were designed to build a strong biological and operational foundation before moving into field management.

The initial lectures provided a deep dive into agronomic fundamentals and standardized management systems. Mr. Jayson V. Abang, DMO I of the Agricultural Training Institute XII, led an extensive discussion on the morphology and distinct growth stages of the rice crop, explaining the specific functions of the roots, stems, leaves, and panicles. This biological overview transitioned into a comprehensive guide on the PalayCheck System and its nine integrated KeyChecks, which serves as the national standard for sustainable, resource-efficient, and profitable rice farming. Participants were urged to fully adopt these KeyChecks to optimize inputs and improve grain yields within their respective clusters.
