LOS ANGELES, Butuan City- More than forty (40) Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) in Region 13 took a refresher course in managing rice pests and diseases in two weeks’ time.
Said training was participated by the AEWs from the provinces of Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur. They were divided by two batches which runs from March 7-11, 2022 for Batch 1 and March 14-18, 2022 for Batch 2.

On Field: Agricultural Extension Workers from Agusan del Norte collect insect pests and disease-infected rice plants during the conduct of the refresher course of rice pests and diseases management on March 7-11, 2022.

It aimed at refreshing the knowledge of AEWs on rice pests and diseases management for them to continually assist the rice farmers in their respective locality. They were taught on facilitating reports on Rice Pests and Diseases Monitoring and Surveillance set by the Department of Agriculture (DA).

Topics discussed include transformational leadership, One DA Agenda, rice industry situation in Caraga region, as well as rice pests and diseases infestation updates. Main topics rolled on the identification of rice insect pests and diseases along with its management.

Moreover, the training methodologies include lectures, participatory discussion, workshops, field activity and actual demonstration.

Collection of rice insect pests and diseases specimen in the field as well as its presentation and making of re-entry plans were among the participants’ outputs for a 5-day training.

The said training was conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) 13 through the Career Development and Management Services Section (CDMSS). Held at Golden Tara Hall, ATI-RTC 13, Los Angeles, Butuan City with Violeta T. Laguna, Training Specialist III as Project Officer. This is funded under the Rice Program of the DA-ATI.
