Mr. Richelle G. Taruc from NDA discussed the economic gains from coconut-cattle dairy integration

MAINIT, Surigao del Norte – The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in collaboration with the National Dairy Authority (NDA) and Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) conducted a farmer-level training on dairy farm operation and management for cattle on November 15-17, 2023. It was participated in by 21 coconut farmers who are the members of Mainit Cacao Producers Association (MCPA) held at Mainit Lakeside Resort, Mainit, Surigao del Norte.

The said training enabled the participants to understand the economic opportunities gained from coconut-dairy cattle integration; explain forage and pasture development; and demonstrate dairy cattle husbandry and milking practices. 

Among the resource persons who facilitated the sharing of knowledge during a series of lectures and discussions were Dr. Kent Gary F. Venci, Mr. Richelle G. Taruc, Ms. Kate M. Namoc, all for NDA, and Mr. Christian John S. Anunciado of PCA. To maximize the learning opportunity of the participants, hands-on demonstration activities particularly planting of different forages were conducted at Brgy. Paco, Mainit, Surigao del Norte the site owned by Mr. Ricarte P. Samosino, Chairman of the Mainit Cacao Producers Association.
