Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte- In support of the Department of Agriculture’s intensified Urban Agriculture Project under the Plant Plant Plant Program or Agri 4Ps that aims at ensuring food availability and affordability, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) XIII conducted the Technical Briefing and Establishment of Integrated Urban Agriculture Garden on April 27-29, 2022.

The Twenty-two (22) farmer-participants of the Technical Briefing and Establishment of Integrated Urban Agriculture Garden City Agriculturist Ma. Arceli C. Soria and ATI-RTC XIII OIC Asst. Center Director Violeta T. Laguna.

It was attended by 22 farmer participants from Barangay 12, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte.

The activity aims to train the farmers, especially the peri-urban dwellers to produce their own food, appreciate the importance of organic farming and its advantage to health and the economy as well as establish a model urban garden in the community.

Engr. Matt Andrew G. Baquiano, Agriculturist II of ATI-RTC XIII served as the resource person for the topics on the basic urban gardening technologies. He demonstrated how to make organic concoctions such as Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ), Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ), Fish Amino Acid (FAA), and Oriental Herbal Nutrients (OHN). Further, he discussed different technologies for crop production, care management, and maintenance. He also encouraged the participants to use available materials to produce organic fertilizer and pesticides in their locality.

“We highly appreciated the effort to educate and train farmers in coping with food shortage with a high price in the market. Thank you for choosing us as participants and our city to be the model of this project, the establishment of an urban garden. With this training we hope that it could mitigate hunger, ensure food and nutrition security and reduce poverty in urban and rural communities,” said Rizalina D. Rex, from Barangay 12, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte.

The said activity was held in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Cabadbaran City represented by the City Agriculturist, Ma. Arceli C. Soria.
