BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur – In support of the food secure-community campaign of the government, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center 13 collaborates with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) – Bislig City in establishing a vegetable garden in the detention facility for the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).
Partnership and Accreditation Section Chief Engr. Matt Andrew G. Baquiano and the team meet with BJMP-Bislig City on February 27, 2024 to discuss the mechanics and tasks, including site preparation and other pre-training activities. Gulayan sa Piitan is under the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP).
Baquiano emphasized that the project involves technical assistance and capacity enhancement for the PDLS. They shall also receive extension support in establishing their vegetable garden.
City Jail Warden Vincent Jomini Q. Orcullo is thankful for being selected as one of the beneficiaries of the NUPAP. He mentioned that the project allows the inmates to grow their food and develops their interest in learning and engaging in farming.
Baquiano mentioned that the activity is funded under the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP) and will commence in May 2024.
