BUTUAN CITY - The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) XIII successfully concluded a three-phase "Coco Talk: Coconut Techno Gabay Forum and Product Expo," culminating in the final phase held in August. The initiative aimed to strengthen the local coconut industry by empowering farmers and agricultural workers with new technologies and business skills.

The final phase, from August 28–30, 2025, was a key highlight, conducted in conjunction with the Agribusiness Support for Promotion and Investment in Regional Expositions (ASPIRE) 2025 event at Gaisano Mall, Butuan City. During this event, OIC-Center Director Noemi Beth G. Macario emphasized ATI-RTC XIII's commitment to empowering farmers and agripreneurs through impactful training. She specifically mentioned the Farm Business School (FBS), a program designed to help farmers increase production and manage their farms effectively amidst climate change.

The event also featured insights from other experts, with OIC-Assistant Center Director Violeta T. Laguna outlining ATI's comprehensive programs and services. Ms. Sophia Jadassah Moleta introduced the Digital Farmers Program, and Ms. Ernalyn Colon of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) discussed the critical issues of MOSH and MOAH. There was also a display of coconut products and IEC materials for the attendees.

The second phase shifted to a practical setting at the LVSR Integrated Diversified Coconut Farm in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur. Hosted by farm owner and Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA) cooperator Ms. Minda Teves, the session provided 37 AEWs from various Local Government Units with hands-on demonstrations and discussions. Participants learned practical skills to start value-adding enterprises, including the production of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), cosmetic products, and other high-potential innovations.

The first phase, held on May 18-20, 2025, at the Balanghai Hotel and Convention Center, brought together coconut farmers, AEWs from Farmers’ Information and Technology Services (FITS) Centers, representatives from the Department of Agriculture (DA) and partner agencies, and Magsasaka Siyentistas. Participants gained insights into new coconut technologies, value-adding processes, and sustainable practices aimed at enhancing productivity, income, and resilience.

Key topics and speakers included: Coco-based Cosmetics: Ms. Regine Mae Rizon, founder of Laregina Coconut Products Manufacturing; MOSH and MOAH: Mr. Miguel Presbetero of Wilmar; Coconut Hybridization and Copra Quality Improvement by Technical experts from the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA); Macapuno Production by Mr. Olegario B. Ayensa Jr., owner of Countryfields Agri Farm.

An overview of the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) and the Techno Gabay Program was also presented, alongside a product expo showcasing diverse coconut-based products and the distribution of information, education, and communication (IEC) materials.

The initiative served as a vital platform to bridge the gap between research, innovation, and practice, ensuring that the latest technologies and market opportunities reach coconut farmers, stakeholders, and agricultural extension workers (AEWs).
