Stakeholders from Surigao del Norte convened at E.Y. Miner Suites on February 4, 2025, for a
provincial consultation workshop focused on shaping a responsive and effective agriculture and
fisheries extension program for fiscal year 2027.
The activity, organized by the Agricultural Training Institute -Regional Training Center 13 (ATI-RTC
13) through its Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Unit, aims to develop a need-based extension
program for 2027 and beyond. It serves as a platform for stakeholders to identify key issues and
concerns related to implementing various extension interventions and generate recommendations
for improvement.
OIC-Center Director Noemi Beth G. Macario officially opened the workshop, setting the activity for
discussions with a presentation outlining the program overview and policy direction of the
Institute.
The activity was attended by representatives from the Provincial Agriculture Office, headed by
Provincial Agriculturist Ms. Ruby-Ann S. Lagahit, City Veterinarian Maridel Zerda, Municipal
Agriculturists, and Agricultural Extension Workers from different LGUs within the province.
Technical personnel from the Philippine Coconut Authority – Provincial Office and Provincial
Agriculture and Fishery Council (PAFC) Chairman Mr. Diosim P. Malig-on also contributed their
expertise to the discussions.
The insights gathered will be instrumental in developing an effective extension program that
empowers local farmers and fisherfolk, Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs), and other clients
to meet the challenges and opportunities of the coming years.
