Province of Dinagat Islands – Two more Local Government Units (LGU) through the Municipal Agriculture Office vowed to strengthen their efforts to bring information and technology closer to the farmers and other stakeholders through the Techno Gabay Program (TGP).

On February 21-22, 2024, the Information Services Section of The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI-RTC) XIII conducted the TGP orientation upon the requests of Municipal Agriculturists Robelyn M. Parreñas of LGU-Dinagat and Jovelyn G. Lumpay of LGU-Tubajon as they signified their intent of establishing the Farmers Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center.

Fil Victor A. Babanto emphasized the goal of the TGP, which is to help hasten agricultural modernization by enhancing farmers’ access to information and technologies as an input to decision-making and entrepreneurial activities. He discussed the complementary components and responsibilities of the FITS staff, including the requirements to avail of the program.

Municipal Agriculturist Parreñas, was hopeful that the FITS center would be materialized within the year because of the guaranteed support from the local officials of LGU-Dinagat.

Also present during the activity were Hon. Samson A. Tidalgo, SB Chair on Agriculture of LGU Tubajon, and TGP-Regional Technical Working Group representatives Mr. Ever Joy Rabadan of the Commission on Higher Education and Mr. Rodel Pasion of the Caraga State University.

The TGP-TWG will hold an evaluation soon after both LGUs have complied with all the requirements and completed the physical preparations of the FITS center.
