Farmer leaders, coop members get updates on coco-coffee prod’n

 HINATUAN, Surigao Del Sur – As one of the trainings under the Coconut Farmers Industry Development Plan (CFIDP), the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) XIII spearheaded a three-day Training on Coconut-Coffee Farming System on October 16-18, 2023 at Amparitas Integrated Natural Farm in Barangay Tagasaka.

This was participated by 24 individuals comprised of farmers, farmer leaders, and cooperative members.  

Participants were expected to demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to implement and manage their coconut coffee cultivation after completing the training course.

The lectures include the topics on principles and practices involved in coconut and coffee farming, up-to-date information on land preparation, planting techniques, pest and disease management, harvesting methods specific to coconut and coffee farming, and the importance of coffee as an intercrop commodity.

Further, discussions on the environmental requirements for intercropping coconut and coffee, recommended practices in the coconut-coffee farming system, and care, maintenance, and processing

“We learned a lot from this training. Our questions, which make us confused about our previous farm practices, were answered. This is additional knowledge that would surely help us and each of our families future,” said Annaliza R. Palingcod, farmer participant from Brgy. Sasa, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
