BUTUAN CITY - The Department of Labor and Employment's Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) made significant strides in empowering women in the Caraga region by conducting a specialized One-Day Fire Safety Orientation held on Friday, March 28, 2025. This face-to-face event equipped women with essential knowledge and practical skills to prevent and effectively respond to fire emergencies.

The orientation, specifically tailored for a female audience, saw a dedicated group of women from various sectors gather to enhance their understanding of fire safety principles. Recognizing the unique roles women play in households, workplaces, and communities, the OSHC designed the program to be both informative and empowering.

Among the participants were Ressell Angelie Fetalsana, Information Officer II and Gender and Development Point Person, and Violy Bisnar, Dormitory Staff, both from the Agricultural Training Institute Caraga. Their participation underscored the importance of fire safety training across diverse professional roles and highlighted the commitment of ATI to the well-being of its staff.

The day began with an opening ceremony, featuring welcoming remarks and an inspirational talk focused on the strength and resilience of women. Participants then engaged in a session on "Leveling of Expectation/House Rules," establishing a comfortable and interactive learning environment.

FO2 Wynn Marnie Bodiongan led the morning sessions, providing crucial insights into the "Chemistry and Behavior of Fire," followed by practical strategies for "Fire Prevention and Control." This knowledge was particularly relevant for women who often manage household safety and contribute to workplace safety protocols.

Following a morning break and lunch, FO3 Jason Ryan Tabada took over, emphasizing the importance of "Means of Egress and Emergency Preparedness." Participants were guided on developing effective evacuation plans, a vital skill for ensuring the safety of families and colleagues.

The afternoon featured a crucial hands-on activity where participants practiced using portable fire extinguishers, solidifying their understanding of the theoretical knowledge imparted earlier. FO3 Tabada also demonstrated the proper use of "Portable Fire Extinguishers." The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) further enhanced the practical aspect of the training with a "Video Demonstration on the Handling and Use of the Different Types of Portable Fire Extinguishers."
