Rolyn

Growing up in a family of eight in Magallanes, Agusan del Norte, Royln Jay G. Aca-ac knew the meaning of hardship. With his father working as a tricycle driver and his mother as a farmer, financial constraints made higher education seem like an impossible dream. After finishing senior high school in 2019, he faced the reality that college was beyond his family's reach.

"Growing up in a poor family, I accepted the sad reality that, like most of my siblings, college is a dream we could not afford," he recalled.

Then, in 2020, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) launched the pioneer batch of the Educational Assistance for the Youth in Agriculture (EAsY Agri) scholarship program. Seeing a glimmer of hope, Royln Jay applied. "I applied, prayed, and when I passed, my life turned onto a path I had only dreamed of," he shared. The scholarship not only provided financial support but also opened doors to learning experiences that shaped his future.

As an ATI grantee, Royln Jay maximized every opportunity given to him. He completed around 20 online courses through the eLearning Program and participated in various trainings, including a Training of Trainers on Cacao Production, Gender Sensitivity, and Mental Health Awareness. "As an ATI grantee, I didn’t just receive financial assistance; I was given opportunities to grow beyond the classroom. They opened doors for me to participate in trainings and eLearning courses that deepened my knowledge in agriculture."

His passion and determination translated into academic excellence. On June 18, 2024, he graduated from North Eastern Mindanao State University – Tagbina Campus with a degree in Bachelor of Agricultural Technology, earning prestigious awards such as the Leadership Award, College Leadership Award, Academic Performance Award, and Best in Practicum. "Through faith, courage, perseverance, and the unwavering support of ATI, I am proud to say that I graduated as the top-ranked student among 469 graduates with a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Technology and am now a Licensed Agriculturist."

Royln Jay’s story is not just one of academic success but of resilience and perseverance. He applied his knowledge in managing their small backyard piggery, integrating modern agricultural techniques. "What I learned didn’t just stay on paper. I turned theory into practice, using artificial insemination and pig production techniques that I learned online in managing our small backyard piggery."

Today, as a young farmer and a licensed agriculturist, he stands as an inspiration to aspiring youth in agriculture. "The path wasn’t easy, but it was worth every challenge. ATI didn’t just help me achieve my dreams—they gave me the tools to rewrite my future," he said, reflecting on his journey. With faith, courage, and the support of ATI, he transformed his dreams into reality and continues to pave the way for a brighter future in farming.
