PATIN-AY, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur – Strengthening its linkage to various stakeholders at the same time promoting different crop production in the region, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) XIII and the Agusan del Sur Provincial Agriculture and Veterinary Office (PAVO) will hold the School-on-the-Air (SOA) on Corn Production dubbed as “Wais sa Mais” starting this May 2022.

Viewed as the second most important crop in the Philippines, the said program aims to intensify the promotion of corn production in the province of Agusan del Sur through the use of radio as the channel for reaching out to the 550 target participants who will be composed of farmers, housewives, youth, and other agri-enthusiasts residing in the municipalities and city of the province.

During its coordination meeting last March 29, 2022, both parties agreed to hold the briefing on April 18, 2022, to be held with the representatives of the participating Local Government Units (LGUs), municipal corn focal person/ coordinators, and provincial SOA coordinator. These will explain the roles and responsibilities of the stakeholders from the provincial down to the municipal level.

OneDA Approach, the Department of Agriculture’s National Corn Program, its origin and cultivation, cultural and biological management of the crop diseases and pests, marketing and processing are just some of the topics to be discussed by the resource persons from PAVO during its 16 episodes.

Present during the activity were Elena Bausing, PAVO - Senior Agriculturist and OIC-Chief of Operations, Joel B. Corvera, Provincial SOA Coordinator, Ressell Angelie Fetalsana and Ginalyn Arbutante, both are Information Officer II of ATI-RTC XIII.
