ATI 13 holds vegetable seed production training

TALACOGON, Agusan del Sur – A total of 20 participants composed of Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and vegetable farmers joined the Training on Seed Production for Lowland Vegetable conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) XIII on October 25-27, 2023 at Del Monte Lowland Rainfed Research Station (DMLRRS) in Brgy. Del Monte.

It aims to enhance the partakers’ knowledge, skills, and attitude towards the vegetable industry and in its seed production.

Participants were able to listen to lectures on the status of the vegetable industry in the region, appropriate cultural practices and post-harvest operation on lowland vegetables, seed selection and storage technology on vegetables, and integrated pest management (IPM). Moreover, topics on the policies, guidelines, procedures, and techniques in vegetable seed production and accreditation, materials, and procedures of seed sampling, sample preparation and tagging, and seed testing methods, procedures, and marketing based on the seed standards were also discussed.

They also were able to do a field practicum on seed processing and testing.

Crishelo Cabillo, Febie Paglinawan and Joanne Langres were the resource persons all from Caraga State Niversity (CSU) located in Ampayon, Butuan City. Romer Amante from the Department of Agriculture – Caraga Region, and Lita Amancia M. Yandug, from the Bureau of Plant Industry, were also key speakers during the training.
