BUTUAN CITY – Making use of the available high-value crops in the region, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC), in partnership with the Caraga State University – Food and Innovation Center (CSU-FIC), conducted the Training of Trainers on Vegetables and Fruits Processing, Packaging, Labeling, and Food Safety Awareness on May 13-17, 2024 at Balangay Hall, ATI-RTC 13 Los Angeles.

The five-day training with 25 participants aimed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and attitude of the Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) towards the vegetable industry in the region, food safety, and value-adding.

“As the catalysts for change, I am encouraging our fellow AEWs to be equipped because the knowledge we will gain and enhance in this training will help improve the economic lives of the farmers and those who are interested in vegetables and fruit processing,” said Dr. Jessie V. Beldia, OIC-Center Director of ATI – RTC XIII during his message.

Vincent Paul Ngilangil was the resource speaker for the vegetable industry situationer in Caraga region.

Moreover, Kristy Valentina Fabe and Genesis Jared Catamura from CSU-FIC discussed the importance of value-adding from packaging, labeling, and marketing of the fruit and vegetables ensuring that the food is safe for consumption. They also presented the processes and operation of the CSU FIC during the hands-on and field visit on May 17, 2024.

“Hands-on Experience. All practical sessions with demonstrations have given us hands-on experience in food processing, packaging, and labeling practices. This can deepen our understanding and boost our confidence in cascading these skills to our clients,” said Gilbert V. Anguay, one of the participants and the Planning Officer of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist – Province of Dinagat Islands.
