The Agricultural Training Institute- Central Luzon (ATI-CL) organized a “Training on Native Cattle Production and Management 1” under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) conducted at Dilasag, Aurora on July 16-18, 2024.
The training aimed to increase the productivity of livestock system, particularly in cattle production, to encourage coconut farmers in Aurora and Zambales and to utilize their coconut lands for livestock farming as an additional source of income. This initiative aimed to improve their quality of life and contribute to the competitiveness of the Philippine Coconut Industry.
The discussion covered topics including Coconut Industry Development Plan; Native Cattle Industry in the Philippines; Livestock Integration in Coconut Lands; Management Practices in Coconut; Native Cattle and its Characteristics; Management Practices in Native Cattle Production and Economics of Coconut-Cattle Integration.
A participant, Mr. Joseph Troy C. Sagayo, shared, “Natutunan ko po sa training na ito ay kung paano ang tamang pag-aalaga ng baka at mga uri ng mga damo at pati na rin po sa kung paano ang tamang proseso ng pagtatanim ng coconut, kung paano patayin ang peste at kung paano ang tamang pagpapataba. Natutunan ko rin po ang pagpili ng kalidad ng magandang baka na aalagaan.“
Additionally, the participants engaged in practical sessions on Silage Making, Cattle Medication, Feeds and Feeding.
Mr. Marcos Y. Manahan and Mr. Kenneth Engaran, experts from Philippine Coconut Authority-Aurora and Municipal Agriculture Office of Dilasag, respectively, served as the resource persons for the said training.
As part of the activity, the participants prepared a re-entry plan and applied the knowledge and skills gained from the training.
