The Agricultural Training Institute- Central Luzon (ATI) conducted a three-day Training on Native Cattle Production and Management under the Coconut Farmers Industry Development Program (CFIDP) held at Brgy. Manggitahan, Dilasag, Aurora on August 20-22, 2024.

The training aimed to integrate native cattle farming with local coconut production, enhancing resource efficiency and boosting the livelihoods of farmers in the Central Luzon.

The training was designed to support the goals of optimizing resource use and elevating the quality of life for farmers while strengthening the competitiveness of both the Philippine Coconut and Native Cattle industries.

Ms. Jessica A. Colorado, local farmer, shared, ā€œI learned a lot, especially about cattle management and integrating cattle into our coconut farm. I gained valuable insights into preventing cattle diseases and pest control for our coconut trees. I believe everyone here has taken away useful knowledge. Iā€™m also glad to see that we all worked together and listened attentively.ā€

Mr. Marcos Y. Manahan and Mr. Eugenio N. Dayacus from the Philippine Coconut Authority-Aurora, and Ms. Kenneth Engaran from the Municipal Agriculture Office of Dilasag, served as resource persons and shared their expertise to provide valuable insights and practical knowledge to the participants.

Furthermore, the participants engaged in practical sessions on silage making, cattle medication, and effective feeds and feeding techniques. These activities allowed attendees to apply their learning in in their respective future farm activities, enriching their understanding and skill set.

The participants prepared a re-entry plan to apply their skills and knowledge directly to their farming practices. This plan is intended to ensure that the learning outcomes are effectively implemented, for sustainability and increased productivity in their agricultural operations.

Moreover, this training marked a significant advancement in the integration of livestock management with coconut farming. By equipping farmers with practical skills and knowledge, the program not only supports immediate improvements in farming practices but also contributes to the long-term sustainability and productivity of the region's agricultural sector.
