The Agricultural Training Institute-Central Luzon (ATI-CL) conducted a three-day Training on Soil Fertility and Nutrient Management in Corn Production held at the SB Hall, Anao, Tarlac, from March 26-28, 2025.
A total of thirty-one (31) corn cluster farmers' associations and cooperatives from Anao, Tarlac, participated in the said training, which aimed to equip them with essential knowledge and practical skills to enhance soil quality and improve corn productivity
Additionally, the program is designed to enhance soil fertility and corn productivity, ultimately improving agricultural practices in the municipality.
The activity commenced with the acknowledgment of guests and participants, followed by welcome remarks from Mr. Alvin C. Butay, Municipal Agriculturist of Anao.
Hon. Jowel Dela Cruz, Municipal Councilor of Anao, delivered a message of support followed by Ms. Guia D. Reyes, Corn Focal Person from ATIโCentral Luzon, who provided a training overview.
Furthermore, Mr. Genesis C. Martin, Agriculturist II from the Department of Agriculture โ Regional Field Office III, served as the resource speaker, discussing the current state of the Philippine corn industry and the economic potential of corn production.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mark Pons M. Cuaresma II led an in-depth session on pre-harvest practices, covering the following key topics; Corn plant physiology and morphology; Growth stages of the corn plant; Varietal improvement and seed quality; NSIC-registered seed and seed classification; and Land preparation, planting, and cultivation.
Moreover, the participants conducted a field practicum, where each group engaged in collecting soil samples for soil testing using soil test kits and to ensure the effective application of their learning, they developed and submitted a re-entry plan, outlining how they will implement the best practices gained during the training to enhance corn production on their respective farms.
