The Agricultural Training Institute – Central Luzon (ATI-CL), in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), successfully conducted the Training on Coconut Hybridization and Nursery Management – Batch 2 from May 13 to 15, 2026, at Luis Nate Farm and Resort, Hermosa, Bataan.
A total of 25 coconut farmers from the province of Bataan participated in the three-day training aimed at equipping them with knowledge and practical skills in selecting quality seed nuts and seedlings to help establish productive, healthy, and sustainable coconut plantations.
During the opening program, Benigno V. Soriano Jr., TSS II, introduced the participants, resource persons, and members of the Training Management Team. This was followed by a welcome message from Luis N. Nate, LSA Cooperator of Luis Nate Farm and Resort.
Meanwhile, Kimberly T. Miguel, TSS IV, presented the training overview, highlighting the objectives and expected outcomes of the activity.
The training covered various topics, including the Overview of the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan, the Coconut Industry in the Philippines, Introduction to Coconut Production, Nursery Establishment, Proper Care and Maintenance of Seed nuts and Seedlings in the Nursery, and Coconut Hybrid Farm Management Practices.
Resource persons included Dodie I. Oclarino from PCA together with representatives from the Municipal Agriculture Offices of Hermosa and Dinalupihan, Bobby Kiel DL. Jorge and Emmanuel James T. Aldos. They facilitated lectures and hands-on activities throughout the training.
Participants also took part in actual demonstrations on seed nut selection, seedbed preparation, seed nut sowing, pest and disease identification, field lay-outing and planting, fertilizer application, pollination, and emasculation.
During the sharing of impressions, Annabelle E. Capuno expressed her gratitude for the initiative. “Labis po ang aking pasasalamat na mayroon pong ganitong programa ang ating gobyerno na makakatulong po upang madagdagan ang ating kaalaman sa pagni-niyog.”
The closing program was led by Reinalyn C. Gulen, OIC, Assistant Center Director, who delivered her message to the participants and encouraged them to apply and share the knowledge gained from the training in their respective communities.
