The Agriculture Training Institute-Central Luzon (ATI-CL) conducted a training on “Keeping the Faith (Food Always in the Home) with Value-Adding Training for PWDs" held at the Orani Evacuation Center, Orani, Bataan, on August 6–8, 2024.
Ms. Krizzell D. Galang, ATI-CL HVCDP focal person, welcomed the participants during the opening program. Ms. Babelyn P. Lopez, ATI-CL Training Specialist II, delivered words of encouragement to the participants.
In the three-day training, the participants engaged in a series of hands-on- activities and lectures, including Introduction to FAITH and its 10 Steps, Cultural Management Practices, and Value Adding.
Furthermore, the practical session focused on home garden pesticides such as Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ), Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ)and F Fish Amino Acids (FAA) that can help them in crop protection and integrated pest management.
Also, the preparation of papaya pickles, pineapple jam, tomato sweets or candy, and chili paste.
Additionally, Ms. Elizabeth M. Cruz, RSW, from the MSWD Office, gave an encouraging message to remain positive to continue improving their skills, and to share new knowledge with their federation members in the community.
Moreover, the training equipped the participants with knowledge of food sufficiency by producing quality and healthy vegetable products from the FAITH Garden, as well as food processing and preservation can help them to create value-added product that could increase their income.
FAITH Gardening is a great tool for food sufficiency, which aims to focus on empowering PWDs through creating sustainable change in their communities and utilizing their creativity and skills in processing the vegetable products in their FAITH Gardening.
A total of thirty (30) PWD participants from Bataan participated in the training which equipped them with essential skills in FAITH Gardening and basic steps in value adding.
