The Agricultural Training Institute- Central Luzon (ATI-CL) concluded a training on Integrated Rice-Based Farming Systems (IRBFS): Maximizing Sustainability through Effective Rice Straw Management at Azbahaen Leisure Farm and Resort, Baler, Aurora, on July 9-11, 2024.
The training was attended by thirty (30) Farmer Leaders from Baler, Aurora to capacitate them on the value and potential uses of rice straw and to be aware of the challenges facing the burning of rice straw in the Philippines today.
Key topics of the training included the integrated diversified rice-based farming system and rice straw management.
βMarami akong natutunan kung paano ang paggawa ng mas mabilis na fruiting bag at kung ano-ano ang mga epekto ng climate change sa sektor ng agrikultura at kung paano tayo makakatulong para maiwasan ito. Natutunan ko din kung paano ang pagbalanse ng nutrisyon sa paggugulay at pagpapalay, at pati na din ang mga solusyon at puwedeng gawin sa mga insekto at peste sa ating pananim,β Ms. Josephine C. Facunla, said, a training participant from Aurora.
Moreover, the training included activities such as field visits and demonstrations focused on exposure to the IRFBS site, showcasing successful implementation, experiencing rice straw management techniques and other IRFBS components, and interaction.
As part of the training, the participants completed a group re-entry plan as their final output.
