In support of RAFC Resolution No. 14, Series of 2024, the Agricultural Training Institute–Central Luzon (ATI–CL),  conducted the Training on the Use of Quick Turn Around and Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) System for Rice – Batch 2 for the Province of Zambales on September 2-4, 2025, at the Teves Integrated Farm and Training Center, Iba, Zambales.

The three-day activity, which aimed to strengthening their knowledge and skills on water-saving technologies in rice production, brought together 30 farmer leaders from various municipalities of Zambales. By promoting the Quick Turn Around and AWD systems, the training sought to support farmers in maximizing yield while conserving water and reducing production costs.

Serving as resource persons were technical experts from the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office III (DA-RFO III), the ATI–CL and Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU). A combination of lecture-discussions, open forums, and hands-on demonstrations ensured a comprehensive learning experience.

During the closing program, the participants shared their insights and appreciation for the training. Mr. Ruperto C. Apilado, former PAFC Chair of Candelaria, reflected on his long years of service and expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “Yung mga resource speaker, magagaling at bata pa, kaya nai-express nila yung experiences nila. Sa dami ng aking napuntahan na training noon, iba na talaga ang panahon ngayon dahil sa teknolohiya. Kaya kudos sa ATI at RAFC,” Mr. Apilado quipped.

Meanwhile, Ms. Carmelita J. Senense of San Felipe highlighted the practical lessons gained, especially on water conservation. “Very proud po kami, especially San Felipe participants na kasama dito sa training sa Teves Farm. Sa knowledge naman, very particular kami sa water conservation. Dati umaasa lang kami sa irrigation water-fed, pero ngayon nakita namin na pwede palang makontrol ang water supply ng palayan gamit ang observation well. Sigurado makaka-improve ito ng rice production,” said Ms.  Senense.

These testimonials emphasized the impact of the training not only in imparting technical knowledge but also in inspiring pride and renewed commitment among farmers in Zambales.

Moreover, the activity is part of the Department of Agriculture’s continuing efforts to empower farmer leaders with innovative and sustainable farming technologies, ensuring that rice production in the province keeps pace with the challenges of climate change and the growing demand for food security.
