The Agricultural Training Institute-Central Luzon (ATI-CL) conducted a three-day training on Native Cattle Production and Management 3 held at Brgy. Diagyan, Dilasag, Aurora, under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) on September 17-20, 2024.

The training aims to provide local farmers with essential knowledge and practical skills to effectively integrate livestock, particularly native cattle, into coconut farming systems. This training would increase farm productivity and income for farmers in the province of Aurora.

A total of 26 Indigenous People (IPs) farmers from Brgy. Diagyan participated in the training, eager to learn modern techniques and approaches in cattle management. The project was led by Ms. Zarah Jane Sendrijas, the project officer, with the support of Ms. Ruth Reyes, CFIDP technical support staff.

Mr. Kenneth A. Engaran from the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist of Dilasag, Aurora, and Mr. Marcus A. Manaan from the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), served as resource persons who shared their expertise in livestock production and management.

One of the key highlights of the training was the hands-on activity where participants learned how to prepare silage, a sustainable feed for cattle, and how to manually measure cattle using only a tape measureβ€”a vital skill for assessing the animal’s size and weight.

At the end of the training, the participants were required to submit re-entry plans detailing how they would apply the knowledge and skills gained. The ATI monitoring team will follow up on these plans in the coming months to evaluate the effectiveness and outcomes of the training.
