Twenty farmers and livestock raisers from various provinces in Central Luzon successfully completed the three-day Training Course on Swine Artificial Insemination (AI) conducted by Agricultural Training Institute - Central Luzon (ATI-CL) from May 13 to 15, 2026, at The Duyan House, Sinagtala Farm & Resort, Orani, Bataan.
The training aimed to enhance the participantsโ knowledge and technical competencies in swine artificial insemination as a modern reproductive management approach in swine production.
Key topics discussed during the course included biosecurity measures, boar selection and management, reproductive anatomy and physiology, swine diseases, estrus detection, backfat measurement, semen collection and evaluation, semen processing and storage, as well as proper AI procedures and cost establishment.
Participants also gained valuable insights from resource persons from the Provincial Veterinary Office of Bataan, namely Joshua Andrei D. Vitug, Farm Supervisor; Edgar Genesis P. Tarayao, Livestock Inspector I; Dr. Agatha Pauline C. De Leon, Veterinarian IV; Royz Lander S. Diwa, TSS III from ATI-CL, who shared both scientific knowledge and field-based practices in swine reproduction management.
As part of the training, participants underwent hands-on activities at Light Integrated Farm and Training Center, a Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA) of ATI-CL, where they applied theoretical lessons on swine artificial insemination in an actual farm setting.
During the closing program, selected participants shared their impressions and key learnings from the training. One of the participants, Jose Virgilio R. Mallonga, described the training as highly informative and beneficial, particularly for small-scale hog raisers.
โThe training was very informative and a big help to us small-scale hog raisers. I learned that artificial insemination is something we can perform ourselves, which reduces our dependence on outside technicians. It also addressed common fears and misconceptions, including the belief that AI yields fewer piglets. One of the most important lessons I gained was the significance of biosecurity in maintaining a healthy and productive farm.โ
Meanwhile, Jayson B. Nidua, Project Officer, expressed his appreciation to the participants for their dedication and active participation throughout the training. โKung nagpapasalamat kayo, mas nagpapasalamat kami sa inyo dahil binigyan ninyo ng oras ang ATI para sa training na ito. Mahirap man umalis sa bahay nang tatlong araw dahil may kanya-kanya tayong responsibilidad. Nakita namin ang inyong sinseridad at seryosong pagdalo. Nawa ay hindi lamang sa kaalaman natapos ang training na ito, kundi maisabuhay at maipamahagi rin ninyo ito sa inyong mga asosasyon at kooperatiba.โ
Through this initiative, ATI-CL continues to strengthen the capacities of farmers by promoting innovative technologies and practical learning toward a more efficient and sustainable livestock sector.
