The Agricultural Training Institute–Central Luzon (ATI-CL) successfully conducted a three-day Training on the Fundamentals of Crop-Based Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Technologies for farmers from various barangays in Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, on June 16-18, 2026, at Roxas Farm, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija
The training was held at Roxas Farm and aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies that can help increase food production and improve livelihoods.
The activity opened with welcome remarks from Ms. Aurea C. Roxas, Farm owner of Roxas Farm, who expressed her gratitude to ATI-CL for selecting Roxas Farm as the venue for the training. She shared that it was the first time such an activity had been conducted at the farm and expressed optimism for its success.
Throughout the three-day program, participants were introduced to various production technologies applicable to urban and peri-urban agriculture. Resource persons discussed the preparation and proper use of natural fertilizers and soil nutrient additives, highlighting their role in improving soil health and promoting better crop growth.
Participants were also introduced to the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP), an initiative designed to strengthen food production in communities through the adoption of innovative technologies and sustainable farming practices being dicussed by Babelyn P. Lopez, Training Specialist II of ATI-CL
Krizzell D. Galang, Training Specialist I, also featured discussions and demonstrations on alternative farming systems such as hydroponics, aquaponics, and aeroponics. Through lectures and hands-on activities, participants gained a deeper understanding of these technologies and their potential to produce crops even in areas with limited space.
“Hindi ko po makakalimutan. Pinag-aralan naman po natin noong elementary o high school ang iba't ibang peste ng halaman. Then yung mga peste o mga insekto, hindi po pala lahat ng nasa taniman namin ay nakakasira sa mga tanim. Ibig sabihin, may mabuti at may masama rin po pala. Naturo niyo rin po ang paggawa ng compost at sobrang makakatipid po tayo. Malaking tulong po sa ating lahat ang pagkakaroon ng training at seminar na ito. Maraming salamat po sa lahat,” Amelia O. Abaya, a farmer from Barangay Palusapis, shared her appreciation for the lessons learned during the training.
The knowledge and skills acquired during the training are expected to help participants improve their farming practices and contribute to ensuring a safe, sufficient, and sustainable food supply within their communities.
