Twenty-two (22) farmers from various provinces in Central Luzon successfully completed the Training Course on Farm Biosecurity conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute โ Central Luzon (ATI-CL) on June 23-25, 2026 at The Duyan House and Sinagtala Farm and Resort in Orani, Bataan. The training aimed to strengthen farmers' knowledge and skills in implementing effective biosecurity measures to protect livestock and poultry from diseases and improve overall farm productivity.
The training commenced with Overview of Farm Biosecurity, delivered by Royz Lander S. Diwa, Technical Support Staff III of ATI-CL, who introduced the participants to the definition, scope, current status, and importance of farm biosecurity in safeguarding livestock and poultry production in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Dr. Franklin C. Barnachea, Associate Professor III of President Ramon Magsaysay State University (PRMSU) - San Marcelino Campus, discussed the Principles and Components of Farm Biosecurity, Farm Access Control and Traffic Management, Farm Sanitation and Waste Management, Animal Health and Disease Prevention, and Biosecurity Implementation and Record-Keeping. Through these sessions, participants learned about disease transmission pathways, risk factors, sanitation and disinfection, quarantine procedures, preventive animal health measures, and the importance of maintaining farm records as part of an effective biosecurity program.
To reinforce the discussions, participants also conducted a farm observation activity at Light Integrated Farm in Orani, Bataan. During the activity, they assessed the farm's existing biosecurity measures and evaluated whether its practices complied with recommended biosecurity standards. The hands-on experience enabled the participants to apply the concepts discussed during the lectures to actual farm operations.
"From the topic itself about biosecurity, sabi nga naman po doon is biosecurity is the entry point ng diseases, at siya ang magiging first and final defense. First defense po ng entry points ng mga sakit. Natutunan po natin yan and it's also our part to share it with our co-farmers na hindi po nakapag-attend lang dito sa training. Kaya po ay sama-sama tayo dito at damay-damay na po. Hindi naman po pwede, alam mo, tapos yung kasama pong farm owners ay hindi niya alam. So kung siya ay affected, affected din po ang lahat,โ Furlin C. Acquiandan of Linchoco Farm shared.
The training concluded with a graduation ceremony recognizing the successful completion of the 22 participants. Through the knowledge and practical skills they acquired, ATI-CL hopes that the graduates will implement and promote sound farm biosecurity practices in their respective farms and communities, contributing to healthier livestock, safer food production, and a more resilient livestock industry in Central Luzon.
