In a quiet corner of Sta. Monica, Rizal, Nueva Ecija, a cool and fresh air greets you once you enter K-D Nature’s Farm. A place filled with hope, smiles, and growth that leaves a lasting impression.
K-D Nature’s Farm is owned and managed by Atty. Carolyn Dumlao-Amis, a former prosecutor in Cabanatuan City who chose to take a different path. From the courtroom to the countryside, she redirected her passion toward uplifting lives focusing on improving the livelihood of farmers and empowering women in the community.
The call of land brought her to build and revitalize the farm, not just for her personal happiness, but also giving inspiration and joyfulness among its farmers and members. The K-D Nature’s farm began its mission in 2015 and was named after her children–Kaye and Donnie.
The Mission Begins
In 2015, K-D Nature’s Farm brought the rebel returnees—which became the pioneers who tilled the land. They found solace and renewal in the farm’s embrace, as it nurtured not just their recovery, but also their spirits and social rebirth.
From its small population, Atty. Amis slowly grew and expanded its population, helping its members to look for opportunities through farming. The farmers are properly cared for and trained that resulted in healthy and fresh high value crops. These crops symbolize hope and dedication, as the farmers are really thriving to make income and sustain their family’s needs.
The farm cultivates rice and a diverse range of high-value crops and fruit bearing trees including malunggay, passion fruit, pepper, onions, turmeric, lettuce, sweet potato, water spinach, eggplants, pineapple, avocado, papaya, and many more crops that grow depending on its cropping season. Beyond primary production, these crops undergo value-adding processes to enhance their quality, marketability, and overall economic potential.
For instance, water spinach is processed to make it into pasta or noodles and sweet potato into chips. They also process burong hipon and atchara. These value-added products are being sold in the market.
How K-D Nature’s Farm Transform Through Partnerships
The K-D Nature’s Farm became a Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA) under the Agriculture Training Institute-Regional Training Center III (ATI-RTC 3) in 2018. Atty. Amis marked this partnership as a memorable milestone. It opened her eyes in some aspects, particularly on giving training that is really crucial for farmers, because these training activities served as a gateway among stakeholders to have a better future through farming.
“Kung hindi dahil sa ATI, hindi ko siguro matatagpuan itong pagtulong sa mga magsasaka.” Atty. Amis shared wholeheartedly.
In addition, K-D Nature’s Farm is now officially an organic certifying body, as ATI offers training, especially on organic agriculture.
To further reach its goal, the farm implemented a goat dispersal program together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Goats are given to selected farmers, providing them an income once they propagate it. To ensure that the program meets its goal, the farmers are closely monitored by the farm and DSWD.
Additionally, the farm also collaborated with Central Luzon State University and Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology to provide training among women at Brgy. Sta. Monica. They’re trained with bread and pastry production, food processing, and dressmaking.
Besides, the men and women of the farm received starter kits, tasting some of the government benefits. Men received agricultural machinery, while selected women received ovens and sewing machines.
It shows that K-D Nature’s Farm is not only focusing on men but also on women. Atty. Amis believes that women can also stand on their own feet by empowering them to make an income.
“So ang status nila sa ngayon ay somehow meron na silang financial independence at nakakatulong sila sa kanilang pamilya,” Atty. Amis shared.
The Fruit of Redirection
A fruit is not only found in plants, but it is also found in one’s life. It is a result of hard work, dedication, and pride.
Mrs. Angel Gaspar, one of the members of the women’s group, testified that K-D Nature’s Farm helped her touch opportunities, and this redirection led her to see her purpose by starting a small business.
“Dito po na-improve ang kaalaman na kaya po natin makipagsabayan sa mga kalalakihan na madagdagan ang kaalaman sa pagnenegosyo,” Mrs. Gaspar shared.
In other words, Mrs. Gaspar is one of the many fruits nurtured by K-D Nature’s farm, while the income she now earns stands as the true harvest of her hard work. It is not the size of the achievement that matters most, but the small, consistent actions that lead to meaningful growth and lasting progress.
More than anything, Atty. Dumlao, founder of K-D Nature’s Farm, confirmed that she truly has a big heart towards people, particularly farmers and groups of women. She helps them access opportunities, build their confidence, and increase their hope. That is what success means at K-D Nature’s farm.
In the same quiet fields of Sta. Monica, where cool air once simply welcomed visitors, K-D Nature’s Farm now stands as a living testament that justice is not only served in courtrooms but also cultivated in soil, nurtured through opportunity, and harvested in the form of hope, dignity, and empowered lives.
