Aiming to strengthen the livestock industry and improve regional production, the 26-day Basic Training Course on Artificial Insemination (AI) and Pregnancy Diagnosis (PD) in Large Ruminants kicked off on August 4 at the DA-Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).

Organized by the DA-Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) CALABARZON in collaboration with DA-PCC-UPLB, the intensive program equips agricultural extension workers (AEWs) with science-based knowledge and hands-on skills in AI and PD. Running until August 28, the course will also take participants to various practicum sites to ensure mastery of essential techniques.

The initiative addresses key industry challenges—such as poor genetic potential, suboptimal feeding systems, and weak reproductive management—through AI and PD, which are vital tools in reproductive biotechnology. These interventions accelerate the dissemination of superior genetics, improve calving intervals, and enhance both milk and meat productivity.

During the opening program, Dr. Rolando Maningas, Center Director of DA-ATI CALABARZON, and Dr. Jesus Rommel Herrera, Supervising Science Research Specialist of DA-PCC-UPLB, underscored the importance of these interventions in uplifting the livestock sector.
