To help counter the threats of pest infestations and climate change on the coconut industry, the DA- Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) CALABARZON brought the Training on Climate-Smart Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Practices for Sustainable Coconut Production to 30 farmer leaders in the region on July 23-25, held in Tayabas City, Quezon.

This was part of the Institute’s commitment to the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) to enhance farmers’ knowledge and capacity in sustainable pest control.

Participants gained an in-depth understanding of the principles of IPM, which involves the combined use of resistant varieties, biological control agents, pest monitoring, and responsible pesticide use. These methods were designed to keep pest populations manageable while safeguarding the environment and enhancing productivity.

This was made possible through the subject matter specialists from the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Region IV-A who delivered relevant topics underscoring climate-smart IPM Practices for sustainable coconut production.

By equipping farmers with science-based practices, ATI CALABARZON supports a more competitive, adaptive, and environmentally sustainable coconut industry, ensuring long-term food security and economic stability across the region.
