The 21-Month internship program is a highly specialized program designed to instill and develop among the youth interns an appreciation and adoption of coconut production technologies as well as starting/enhancing a coconut agri-enterprise. The youth are partnered among coconut LSAs and/or farm partners/ cooperatives for their hands-on internship during the first year and in the second year, they will be mentored based on their agri-business (Business Enterprise Plan - BEP) proposals.
INTERNS
Basic Qualifications:
- Natural-born Filipino citizen aged 22 to 30 years old, single, and unemployed at the time of deployment.
- Son/daughter of NCFRS- registered coconut farmer (less than 5 hectares)
- Interested to enter the agriculture industry, specifically along the coconut value chain;
- Willing to undertake a 21-month specialized program (9 months of internship and 12 months Business Enterprise Plan;
- Physically and Mentally Fit;
- Simplified Business Plan
- Have no overdue obligations from the DA or ATI at the time of application.
- Has good community standing and/or good moral character certified by LGU.
Roles and Responsibilities as Interns:
- Open a Landbank of the Philippines (LBP) account;
- Sign an Acknowledgement Receipt upon release of the grants including monthly stipends and enterprise start-up fund;
- Identify the site where his/her enterprise project will be established;
- Submit the final draft of the Business Enterprise Plan (BEP) to the RSC at the 8th month of the internship period;
- Allow visitation to his/her proposed farm site for business/ enterprise for assessment and viability;
- Cooperate and participate actively in the activities planned by the farm partners;
- Accomplish a daily farm journal and submit a monthly accomplishment report to the ATI-RTC;
- Participate in monthly “Coco-mustahan” and other activities related to the program;
- Report any incident at the farm and concerning the Interns to the ATI-RTCs;
- Report situations that will affect the implementation of the BEP to the farm partner;
- Notify in writing and seek approval from the ATI-RTC in case of any changes, delay, or any concern affecting the establishment of the business/enterprise;
- Mobilize other personal resources and/or agencies and institutions to ensure the success of his/her business or enterprise; and
- Ensure the availability of documents and other information relevant to the monitoring and evaluation of internship and hands-on practice.
FARM PARTNERS
Basic Qualifications
- Farm operator/owner/cooperative/association, preferably Coco LSA certified farm
- Must be in operation for at least one (1) year
- Has farm activities within the value chain either production, value adding, processing, or marketing
- Has accommodation facility for at least two (2) Interns
- Has basic farm tools, equipment, or facilities needed for its operations
- Willing to provide food for the interns during the nine (9) months internship program
- Has an Internship Program Plan (IPP) for nine (9) months
- With good community standing and has no proven derogatory record
- Farm area is not part of conflict zones
Roles and Responsibilities of Farm Partners:
- Submit a proposed internship program plan;
- Open an LBP, or use an existing LBP account under the name of the farm enterprise or owner/ operator where the funds will be transferred;
- Sign an Acknowledgement Receipt upon release of the mentoring fee;
- Follow the activities in the internship program plan approved by the RSC;
- Provide accommodation and food for the interns, and other materials needed during the internship;
- Assist the interns in the preparation of their BEPs;
- Mentor and supervise the interns during their BEP implementation;
- Allow farm visitation of the NSC and RSC for monitoring;
- Allow the interns four (4) days off per month;
- Submit monthly reports to the ATI-RTCs during the Phase 1 of the program;
- Participate in the activities related to the program;
- Notify in writing and seek approval from the ATI-RTCs in case of any changes, delays, or any concerns affecting the conduct of the internship program;
- Report any incidents or issues during the internship to the ATI-RTCs; and
- Ensure the availability of documents and other information relevant to the monitoring and evaluation of the program.
