In partnership with the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office (DA-RFO), the Training on Biosecured Swine Production: Mitigating African Swine Fever (ASF) at the Farmers Level concluded at Seasons Hotel and Convention Center in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, on March 13, 2025.
This three-day training which started on March 11, emphasized the critical role of biosecurity in farming activities, especially in safeguarding livestock from diseases. It also aimed to provide farmers with the appropriate knowledge and skills on biosecurity to protect their farms from ASF and other infectious diseases.
In the training, the participants were provided with lectures on various topics to further enhance their knowledge. Ms. Roshelle Q. Sagun, an Insurance Representative from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), oriented them on PCIC programs related to swine production.
Participants then engaged in a hands-on activity to develop their skills. Mr. Gio Earl C. Laguerta demonstrated the proper way to wear personal protective equipment, as well as correct swine restraint and blood collection techniques during the hands-on activity.
Additionally, the participants were also educated on how to properly assess their farms using the Biosecurity Assessment form to help them determine whether their farms met the biosecurity Level 1 or 2 standards.
The training was attended by 27 registered farmer participants from various cooperatives and associations in Occidental Mindoro endorsed by the DA-RFO.
