To equip Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) with the knowledge and skills needed for effective extension management, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in MIMAROPA spearheaded the Extension Management Course (EMC) on May 26–29, 2026, at ATI-MIMAROPA, Barcenaga, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.
Ms. Theresa Aurora B. Cosico from ATI-Central Office, Ms. Hannadi S. Guiamad-Pompong from ATI-RTC 12, and Ms. Shiela S. Corpuz from ATI-RTC 1, all members of the EMC Core Team, served as resource persons for the four-day training.
The EMC covered three major lessons: Lesson 1 – Towards a Food Secure and Stronger Philippine Agriculture; Lesson 2 – The State of Agricultural Extension; and Lesson 3 – Improving Management in Agricultural Extension.
Throughout the training, participants engaged in lectures and participatory discussions, complemented by workshops that made the sessions more interactive, engaging, and meaningful.
As part of the course requirements, they developed re-entry action plans to guide the application of the knowledge, skills, and insights gained from the training in their respective workplaces.
In his closing message, Mr. Jayson N. Erondo, Acting Assistant Center Director, emphasized that while the course was primarily designed for extension managers, it also provided an opportunity for Agricultural Technicians to enhance their competencies and prepare for leadership and higher-level positions.
“It is a helpful place where AEWs in both management and technical roles can share ideas and perspectives. It also allows AEWs from different provinces to share good practices, helping them work more effectively and improve agricultural extension services in the region,” he said.
Geg C. Abrenica, Agricultural Technologist of MAO-Bongabong, said that he felt privileged to be part of the training. He expressed gratitude for the knowledge and experiences shared by the resource persons, saying that the training inspired him to improve his skills and work, which he can apply in his future career and extension service.
A total of 25 AEWs from Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon completed the four-day training.
