The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in MIMAROPA successfully conducted the Training Course on Seed Testing for Seed Analysts, from August 13 to 15, 2024 at the Victoria, Nature Park Integrated Farm, Brgy. Bambanin, Victoria, Oriental Mindoro.
Aimed at enhancing the technical expertise and practical skills of seed analysts in seed quality assessment, the training was attended by 16 participants from Bureau of Plant Industry- National Seed Quality Control Services (BPI-NSQCS) stations of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro.
This three-day training provided engaging theoretical and practical sessions given by renowned experts in seed science. Topics covered include seed morphology, germination testing, purity analysis, and the latest advancements in seed testing technology. A significant portion of the training was dedicated to hands-on practice where participants conducted germination tests and seed purity analyses using state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. They also participated in group discussions and case studies that provided real-world scenarios. This practical component was crucial for reinforcing theoretical knowledge and developing troubleshooting skills. The two stations of BPI-NSQCS were also able to submit their action plans.
Participants expressed a high level of satisfaction with the course content and delivery. Feedback indicated that the interactive sessions and practical exercises were particularly beneficial in bridging the gap between theory and practice. The training also fostered networking among seed analysts, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experiences. The success of the training course underscored the importance of continuous professional development in maintaining high standards in seed testing and highlighted the need for ongoing educational initiatives in the field.
