VALLADOLID, Negros Occidental – With its efforts to continuously bring agriculture and fishery information and technologies closer to the communities through its Techno Gabay Program (TGP), the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) - Region 6 through its Information and Services Section (ISS) launched the first ever Farmers Information and Technology Services (FITS) Kiosk in Negros Occidental at the Central Philippine State University (CPSU) Valladolid Campus.

A FITS Kiosk is an extension of the FITS Center in the locality that will replicate the services of its mother FITS. Like the FITS Center, it will provide ready access to IEC materials and services for farmers, fishers, youth, and other stakeholders.

In her message during the launching, Rosela Bayaborda, Municipal Agriculturist of Valladolid, noted the advantage of having the FITS kiosks in the university.

“You are now keeping abreast with the present technology and have now easy access to information and technology services in agriculture to reduce rural poverty and promote the country’s agricultural development,” Bayaborda remarked.

Meanwhile, ISS Chief Nicolasita Gallego also explained that the FITS Kiosk would be a radiation of the Valladolid FITS for the farmers, fishers, and students in the locality to access technology and information on agriculture and fisheries.

Aside from various IEC materials, ATI Region 6 provided the new Kiosk with a desktop computer, printer, and speakers to be used by the clients who will visit the Kiosk. The students and users can now access the free online courses through the e-Learning program of the Institute.

The FITS Kiosk launching also coincides with the turnover of gilts and piglets to livestock raisers of the 4th District of Negros Occidental as part of the province’s Typhoon Odette Livestock & Poultry Rehabilitation Program.

The activity happened on March 15, 2023, at the CPSU Valladolid Campus Youth Center in Brgy. Bagumbayan, Valladolid.  The farmer-beneficiaries from the 4th District LGUs, Board Members and local chief executives attended the ceremony. Valladolid Mayor Enrique Miravalles, OIC Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Placeda Lemana, and Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson were present during the program.
