BANGA, Aklan – Earlier today, February 25, 2025, at ASU Banga Campus, the Agriculture and Fisheries Resources, Research, and Extension for Development Network (AFRREDN) Region 6 and Aklan State University (ASU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen their partnership in research, development, and extension (R4DE) initiatives. This collaboration aims to establish a common agenda and programs to avoid duplication of efforts and conserve resources.

Mr. John Amorsolo, the Focal Person of AFRREDN Region 6, presented an overview and the implementing guidelines for institutionalizing the Agriculture and Fisheries Resources, Research, and Extension for Development Network (AFRREDN).

ASU, which is mandated to provide advanced instruction and professional training in agriculture, science and technology education, and related fields, also undertakes research and extension services while providing progressive leadership. As a center for agricultural education development in Region 6 and the provincial institute for fisheries, ASU welcomes the establishment of the Agriculture and Fisheries Resources, Research, and Extension for Development Network (AFRREDN) Region 6 within the university.

"We look forward to productively collaborating in various fields, including crop production, animal husbandry, aquatic and marine resources, environmental and natural resources, social investigations, extension services, technology transfer, and agricultural enterprises. We will also address cross-cutting areas such as agroecology and organic agriculture, gender equality, information and technology development, agro sociology, and rural development," said Dr. Ana Mae C. Relingo, Vice President for Administration, during her welcome message.

"Networking has proven to be an effective strategy in implementing our research, development, and extension programs, projects, and activities. We welcome this initiative for everyone engaged in research and development," she added.

As a network, the main focus of AFRREDN should be on the midstream and downstream aspects of research, promoting mature technologies ready for transfer or commercialization to extension intermediaries.

Present during the MOU signing are Dr. Jeffrey A. Clarin, SUC President III of ASU, Dr. Ana Mae C. Relingo, Vice-President for Administration, ASU personnel from the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Environmental Sciences, College of Fisheries, Research and Extension Office, Mr. John Amorsolo, Focal Person of AFRREDN Region 6 from DA-RFO 6, Mr. Vianney T.
