BANGA, Aklan - To reflect the relentless goal of fostering locally produced rice, ATI Region 6 celebrates National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM) with 29 participants composed of Agricultural Extension Workers, rice farmers, and general consumers on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at Maria Y. Orosa Hall, ASU Compound.
The country celebrates National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM) every November according to Proclamation No. 524, s. 2004. Since then, the Department of Agriculture has been leading, planning, and orchestrating its celebration within the country to heighten public awareness of rice to address malnutrition, competitiveness, and self-sufficiency issues.

Mr. Jonh Flor Emmanuel V. Salmorin, Technical Support Staff IV of ATI Region 6, engages the participants by discussing Free-range Chicken Production.
The month-long celebration has four key strategies of the Masagana Rice Industry Development Program (MRIDP) such as increasing rice productivity by optimizing yields, reducing risk, and increasing resilience through climate change adaptation measures; achieving economies of scale, more efficient operations, and agribusiness through farm clustering and consolidation; quickly implementing digital transformation for rice agriculture; and reorienting the rice program towards a comprehensive “Triple A” approach (i.e., agricultural production, agribusiness, and agritourism).
Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture also promote the ABaKaDa theme which stands for: Adlay, mais, saba, atbp. ay ihalo sa kanin, Brown Rice ay kainin, Kanin ay huwag sayangin, and Dapat bigas ng Pilipinas ay bilhin.
This activity intends to elevate local public support on healthier rice production and consumption patterns through a massive multimedia and interactive information dissemination campaign.

The faces of the farmers were excited as they listened to some messages before the National Rice Awareness Month celebration commenced.
