WESTERN VISAYAS- ATI Region 6 conducted three batches of Rice Program Consultation and Planning Workshop last January 12-13, 19-20, and 24-25, 2023, respectively. The activity was attended by a total of ninety Provincial and Municipal Rice Program Coordinators, Report Officers, and Municipal Agriculturists regionwide.
The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 6, ATI Region 6, and the Provincial Local Government Units presented the accomplishments for FY 2022 and targets for FY 2023. Good practices were also highlighted during discussions. Furthermore, updates about the rice commodity of Western Visayas were presented.
“I am happy that Rice Program Coordinators are still active and attending this kind of activity. We must strengthen our partnership and get capacitated and updated with regards to new technologies because this program is one of the prime commodities and our clients need us. We must give them the best training, that’s why we are here to craft our plans for FY 2023 and level off some issues and concerns that had transpired during the implementation of this program,” said Mary Ann A. Ramos, ATI Region 6 Officer-in-Charge.
A workshop on identifying factors and challenges that affected extension activities was conducted, and inputs were collected from both extension service recipient and provider. Recommendations to cope up with the identified issues were listed.
The activity also served as the venue for participants to learn from each other’s ideas through sharing of experiences and good practices and approaches.
“As an Agricultural Technologist, it is indeed a challenge for us that we lack resources like funding for us to carry out extension services and educate farmers. This workshop is a big help for us to create a baseline data for our future endeavors in agriculture sector especially in the rice industry. We are very much grateful to ATI for this activity because we were able to level off issues that needs immediate action,” expressed by Andrea Faith Evalle, Agricultural Technologist of LGU-Igbaras, Iloilo during the Closing Program.
The activity intends to analyze, assess, plan and level off issues and concerns of the Rice Program in Western Visayas.
