ILOILO, City – Recently concluded Regional Consultation for the Development of Extension and Training Roadmap for Priority Commodities brought together 33 key stakeholders from various sectors on November 6-8, 2024. Stakeholders, including government agencies, private agricultural experts, farmers and fisherfolks, agricultural and aquaculture departments, and educational institutions, discussed and developed a comprehensive roadmap for extension and training in priority commodities.
Stakeholders gather to utilize the different strategic planning and road mapping tools to pinpoint the specific AFE interventions.
The participants engaged in the roadmapping process to identify essential Agriculture and Fisheries Extension (AFE) interventions for emerging commodities while validating and gathering valuable inputs. This initiative is in connection with DA Secretary Tiu Laurel's vision to "increase agricultural productivity, lower food cost, ensure food security, and make farming and fisheries a more bankable investment alternative" in the country.
In her impression, Dr. Helen Genandoy, representing West Visayas State University, stated, "I hope we are inspired to promote collaboration and emphasize the importance of sustainable development in the agriculture and aquaculture sectors. Together, let's shape the future of the goat, native chicken, and oyster industry through sustainable practice, innovative value chains, collaborative approaches, and extension services."
OIC Assitant Center Director Vianney T. Ojerio presents the Commodity Roadmapping Framework and Guiding Principles to develop, harmonize, and enhance the extension and training roadmap for priority commodities.
In his message, OIC Assistant Center Director Vianney T. Ojerio expressed his gratitude to the agencies and institutions attending the regional consultation and workshop. "We learned a lot in the process, gained new connections, and developed a comprehensive Extension Roadmaps for three priority commodities of the region: Native Chicken, Goat, and Oyster," he added.
The activity produced Regional Extension and Training Roadmaps for Priority Commodities. Each roadmap shall contain the current scenario, value chain analysis, SWOT analysis, goals and objectives, strategies and programs, financial requirements, policy and regulatory support, and governance support needed for implementation.
